In August 2011 Gibson was lead speaker at the Oxford Union in a debate: ‘Is Global Warming a Threat to Humanity’. Gibson spoke against the motion with ex-BBC science editor David Whitehouse as his seconder, while Tory minister Alok Sharma MP spoke in favour.

Imperial College Lecture Series:
2001 to date: Marcus co-founded with Prof David Phillips CBE, the Imperial College Lecture Series in which leading scientists give powerful lectures on their latest work. It is now ably run by Rod Rhys Jones and team – still the best attended regular lecture series in London.

To 1986: speechwriter for NHK TV, Tokyo, of a documentary looking at the British political system and regulation, going back to the anti-corruption and secret ballot acts of the late 19th century – in the wake of Japan’s ‘Recruit’ corruption scandal, which led to demands to create an incorruptible political system, similar to that in the UK.
